Starting from 4th March, thousands of Italian scientists can indicate the most praiseworthy discovery
The selection for the most relevant discovery for “environmental sustainability and quality of life”, topic of the 2020 edition of the International Award “Lombardy is Research” of the Lombardy Region worth 1 million Euro, is getting to the heart of the matter.
Applications to the Award opened on 4th March. Also for this fourth edition, self-applications are not allowed.
How the Award works:
The regulation foresees that one or more researchers from all over the world who are worthy of the Award can be indicated. They can be appointed by all scientists in the Top Italian Scientist list active in the fields selected according to the Award topic.
The topic of the 2020 Edition mainly focuses on Natural & Environmental Sciences, Material & Nano Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Business Sciences, Engineering and Physics.

There will be approximately 3,800 potential proponents. Their task would be that of indicating which discovery can be regarded as the most relevant for “environmental sustainability and quality of life” based on its scientific value, originality as well as its economic and societal impact.
As for the past edition of 2019, the appointment procedure will be managed via Blockchain, technology that will certify its transparency and ensure the invariability and traceability of all steps in full compliance with privacy regulations.

Research day on 13th November
The prize awarding will stem from the contributions made by the voters, the Jury and the Lombardy Region. This acknowledgement will be given in occasion of Research day, established by the Region to commemorate Umberto Veronesi. This will take place on 13th November at the “Teatro alla Scala”.
The International Award Jury consists of 15 top Italian scientists active in the reference fields of this Award edition.
