There is still time to submit a nomination for the “Lombardia è Ricerca” (Lombardy means research) international Award. The latter is the Lombardy Region's EUR 1 million award for a high-profile scientific and technological discovery as well as research in the Life Science field, which will be presented to the winner at La Scala Theatre in Milan on 8 November.

As stated in the attached decree, the deadline for submitting nominations has been extended from 15 July 2024 to 31 August 2024.

The purpose of this is to encourage a greater level of participation and initiative from the scientific community, both in Italy and abroad.

As per the regulations, any scientist (of any nationality) with an “H-index” of at least 10 in the Scopus database can “nominate”, as a potential winner, a colleague (of any nationality) who is the author of discovery or research deemed of high quality which falls within one of the research themes suggested for this seventh edition of the Award.

The themes for 2024 are:

  • new frontiers in customised medicine, as well as innovative care, treatment and prevention models;
  • research leading to exceptional advances in biology, chemistry, physics;
  • technological progress in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, new materials and nanotechnology;
  • research on renewable energies, climatic change, pollution and global health.

How to participate

Submitting a nomination for the “Lombardia è Ricerca” International Award is easy: just fill in the form which you can find at this link.

The nominations thus received will then be assessed by a Jury of experts, selected from those with the highest H-index in the fields of research relevant to the 2024 edition of the Award.

The winner - or winners - will then receive the award on 8 November, during the Research Day promoted by the Lombardy Region at La Scala Theatre in Milan, in collaboration with the Veronesi Foundation.

The impact on the territory

A special feature of the “Lombardia è Ricerca” international Award is that 70% of the EUR 1 million cheque will be used to support research projects carried out by public or private research organisations in Lombardy, and/or to support young researchers in collaboration with Lombardy universities.
