The recognition of the ecological component of cancer and the role of the tumor microenvironment had long been limited. What was needed was a determined effort to ground the idea in solid biological and molecular foundations. Mantovani was a pioneer in this endeavor.

Event

The seventh edition of the Research Day organized by the Lombardy Region took place on November 8, 2024, at the famous Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
 
Research Day was established by Regione Lombardia in memory of Umberto Veronesi, on the anniversary of his passing, to celebrate the primary role of science and research in improving the living conditions of citizens.
 
The event, open to everyone, aims to promote the importance of research and innovation for the development of the Lombardy Region.
 
The highlight of the day was the awarding of the International Prize “Lombardy is Research” in Life Sciences.
 
During the ceremony, awards were also given for the best innovations presented for the “Lombardy is Research” Prize for high school students and for the IeFP pathways in the region.
