Pier Paolo Di Fiore is a full professor of General Pathology at the University of Milan and director of the "Novel Diagnostics Program" at the European Institute of Oncology. From 1984 to 1995, he worked in the United States at the National Cancer Institute. He is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization and Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. He has authored dozens of publications in leading international scientific journals, including Science, Nature, and Cell.

Thomas Christian Südhof received his degree and PhD from the University of Göttingen. After training at the Max Planck Institute and UT Southwestern, he began his independent career in 1986. In 2008, he became a professor at Stanford. Awarded the Nobel Prize in 2013, he studies the mechanisms of neurotransmitter release and synapse formation.

Gennaro Melino, director of the department and professor of Biochemistry, graduated from La Sapienza University in 1978 and, after a career in London, returned to Tor Vergata University in 1985. He has received the Feltrinelli Prize (2009) and the Antonini Prize (2010), as well as an honorary doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) in 2012. His research focuses on cell death and the p53 family, with applications in oncology and dermatology.

Silvia Franceschi, a graduate in Medicine with specializations in Gynecology and Health Statistics, and a Master's in Epidemiology from Oxford, has contributed to understanding the role of HPV in cervical, anal, and oropharyngeal cancers. She has promoted HPV screenings and vaccinations in Asia and Africa. Since 2018, she has returned to Italy at Centro di Riferimento Oncologico (Aviano) as Scientific Director (interim until 2021).

Silvia Priori graduated in Medicine and specialized in Cardiology at the University of Milan, with a PhD in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology. After a post-doctoral fellowship in the USA, she returned to Italy in 1996. She is currently a Full Professor and Director of the Cardiology School in Pavia, leads the Molecular Cardiology Unit in Pavia, and coordinates a research group in New York, focusing on inherited arrhythmogenic diseases.

Paola Bonfante, who earned her degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Turin in 1970 and was a professor of Plant Biology from 1984 to 2017, is now honorary professor. She has studied plant-microorganism interactions, particularly mycorrhizae, which are essential for 90% of plants. She served on the CNR Scientific Committee (2012-2016) and is a member of the Academy of Sciences of Turin (since 2000), the French Academy of Agriculture (2017), and the italian Accademia dei Lincei (2011). She is among the most cited Italian researchers worldwide.

José M. Kenny is a Full Professor of Materials Science and Technology and Director of the Center for Materials Science and Technology at the University of Perugia. He also heads the European Center forNanostructured Polymers and has coordinated numerous international projects. He has authored over 450 publications and has received prestigious awards, including the SAMPE Fellow Award and the RAICES Award.

Pierre Baldi earned degrees in Mathematics and Psychology from the University of Paris and a PhD in Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology. He is a Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics at the University of California Irvine. He has contributed to the development of AI and deep learning, applying them to the natural sciences. Among his awards are the Caianiello Prize and his election as a Fellow of various institutions.

Rosalind Picard studied Electrical Engineering at Georgia Tech and MIT. A professor at MIT since 1987, she has authored over 350 articles on computer vision, machine learning, human-computer interaction, and wearable sensors. Founder of two companies, she is a pioneer in affective computing, advocating that emotions are essential for machine intelligence. In 2022, she was awarded the international "Lombardia è Ricerca" prize, dedicated to computer science for safety, well-being, and sustainable growth.

Hamid Reza Karimi earned his degree in Power Systems from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran in 1998, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Control Systems Engineering from the University of Tehran in 2001 and 2005, respectively. Since 2016, he has been an Associate Professor of Applied Mechanics at the Politecnico di Milano. His research interests include mechatronics and control systems with applications in automotive, robotics, and wind energy. He is a member of various academies and committees, including Academia Europaea, IIAV, and ISCM. He has received several awards, including the Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher (2016-2021) and the IEEE Guillemin-Cauer Best Paper Award (2020).

Matsuura Takeshi earned his bachelor's degree (1961) and master's degree (1963) in Applied Chemistry from the University of Tokyo. He continued his doctoral studies in Germany at the Chemical Technology Institute of the Technical University of Berlin, obtaining the title of Doktor-Ingenieur in 1965. In 1992, he became a professor at the University of Ottawa and currently serves as the director of the Industrial Membrane Research Institute (IMRI).

Graduated in Physics and an expert in experimental particle physics with experience in conducting experiments at both national and international laboratories, Bisello was a Full Professor of General Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Padua from 2000 to 2016. Since 1994, he has been involved in the CMS experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider, where he now collaborates as an emeritus researcher.

Patrizia Caraveo graduated in Physics from the University of Milan in 1977. After experiences abroad, she joined the Cosmic Physics Institute of the CNR, now part of INAF. Since 2002, she has been a Research Director and the Director of the Institute for Space Astrophysics in Milan. She has collaborated on space missions such as COS-B, Integral, Swift, Agile, and Fermi, and contributed to the identification of the Geminga pulsar. She received the National Prize from the President of the Republic in 2009 and several accolades from the American Astronomical Society, including the Outstanding Achievement Award in 2014. She is listed among the Highly Cited Researchers of 2014 by Thomson Reuters.

Professor Markku Kulmala is the head of the Division of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Helsinki and the leader of the Finnish Center of Excellence in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Meteorology of Atmospheric Composition and Climate Change, working with over 150 scientists. He has led two Nordic Centers of Excellence and coordinated the European project EUCAARI. He has published over 600 research articles, including 8 in Nature and 11 in Science, with an H-index of 61 and more than 15,000 citations.

Frank Dentener has been working for 25 years in the fields of air pollution, climate change, and agriculture. He is a senior expert at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre and earned his PhD in Physics under Nobel laureate Paul Crutzen. He is a member of the scientific committee of JPI FACCE and co-chair of the Scientific Advisory Group of the WMO. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and 3 IPCC reports, with an H-index of 80, and is one of the most cited scientists according to Thomson-Reuters. His expertise includes atmospheric chemistry-land interactions, ozone impacts on agriculture, and climate change.

Carl June manages a laboratory studying the mechanisms of lymphocyte activation related to immune tolerance and cancer immunotherapy. In 2011, his team published an innovative therapy that uses genetically modified T cells to treat patients with refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia. With over 500 publications and an H-index of 175, he is a leader in his field. He is currently the Richard W. Vague Professor at the Perelman School of Medicine and Director of the Center for Cellular Immunotherapies. He has received numerous awards, including election to the National Academies of Medicine and Sciences. In 2023, he won the international "Lombardia è Ricerca" prize with Steven A. Rosenberg for developing immunotherapy using natural and genetically reprogrammed cells.
