Lendlease

Company

Lendlease is a leading international group in the real estate sector, particularly in urban development. It is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange and headquartered in Sydney, with projects in Australia, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Lendlease's vision is to create the best places; places that generate value and where communities can thrive, inspiring and enriching people's lives worldwide. This activity is reflected in three business segments: Development, Construction, and Investment. Their combination provides a sustainable competitive advantage, enabling them to deliver integrated and innovative solutions for clients. Lendlease has a global development pipeline valued at US$85 billion (as of June 30, 2021) and manages assets worth US$29.7 billion (as of June 30, 2021). In Italy, Lendlease is involved in two major urban regeneration projects in Milan:

  1. MIND-Milano Innovation District, a public-private partnership with Arexpo - the company responsible for enhancing and developing the entire site of Expo 2015 - which will create an innovation district where the new frontiers of technology and biosciences converge.
  2. Milano Santa Giulia, in partnership with Risanamento Spa, one of the largest urban redevelopment projects in Milan, a mixed-use project combining commercial and residential spaces, aiming to bring together well-being, sustainability, and social development for a new European destination.

Challenge

In 2024, at least two thousand people will be present at MIND daily, and this number is expected to grow over time. There is a need to provide catering services to this audience.

For this reason, Lendlease is developing a project to create a food court at MIND, which includes the construction of a space with 120 seating places inside a temporary structure and an outdoor area.

Lendlease needs to collect and interpret data on the number of people using the food court services, peak hours of attendance, and areas within the district with the highest demand.

They are seeking a technological solution to gather and analyze this data in order to evaluate the social impact of this temporary structure at MIND. Additionally, they aim to scale this experience to other temporary structures and adapt Lendlease's policy in this regard.

Prize

The start-up is proposed a test bed for experimentation with the opportunity, if the level is deemed suitable for an innovation district, to implement physical deployment and monitoring in the short/medium term.

At the end of the process, the start-up will have the opportunity to present their project to the entire MIND ecosystem, Lendlease, and other participating start-ups, as well as international partner districts.
